In this highly experiential, hands-on-workshop, participants will be able to:
- Discover the role of gross and fine motor skills and childhood overweight as related to a child's ability to take part in various physical activities
- Identify the benefits of parent/caregiver participation with children's physical activities
- Generate community resources and overcome perceived barriers to increased physical activity
- Take along "do anywhere, anytime" fun activities for all ages
Using Existing Resources To Prevent Pediatric Overweight - A Review of Preschool Health Promotion Programs and Tools
Presenter: Debra Kibbe, MS, ILSI RF/Center for Health Promotion
Concerns related to the childhood overweight epidemic have caused many preschool
providers to develop or seek intervention programs that promote physical activity (PA)
and healthy eating in young children. This interactive session will highlight existing,
evaluated nutrition and/or PA education intervention programs and tools designed for use
in the preschool setting. Participants will review sample materials, experience some fun
activities firsthand, and receive practical ideas for program implementation considering
existing resources and barriers.
